Borders NHS Board is responsible for improving the health of the people of the Scottish Borders. In ensuring the best possible health for people in the Borders, its priorities are:

  • Prevention of disease
  • Promotion of good health
  • Accessible services - both by location and low waiting times
  • High-quality care
  • Cost-effective care
  • Responding to the public

This is done by working closely with the family doctors, dentists, pharmacists, opticians and other organisations throughout the Borders and by making arrangements with NHS Trusts to provide appropriate hospital and community care. Borders' other responsibilities include registration of nursing homes and monitoring communicable diseases.
